Buying a flagship is less and less compulsory. This year's mid-range took a clear step forward: smooth 120 Hz screens, cameras that do well in good light, and batteries that reach the end of the day without worry, all under 400 euros.
It's the segment where the best balance of spend and result now sits. For anyone using their phone for messages, social, everyday photos and a bit of everything, the gap from a thousand-euro flagship shows less and less.
The limits to know remain. Low-light photography is still where flagships rule, as is power for heavy gaming and some finer materials. Software updates, too, often last fewer years than on the top models.
The upshot: before spending on a flagship, it's worth asking what you'll really do with it. For many, today's mid-range is more than enough, and the price difference stays in your pocket.
