The full story
One tech product is growing faster than the rest this year: smart glasses. Not the sci-fi augmented-reality kind, but the simple ones, with a camera, speakers and a voice assistant hidden in a normal frame.
The reason for the success is precisely the simplicity. They ask you to learn nothing: they capture photos and video of what you're looking at and answer a few commands, while staying indistinguishable from a classic pair of glasses. It's the opposite of the bulky headset, and that's what made them popular.
The pull of certain eyewear-brand models has stirred the market, and other tech makers are preparing their own versions. The competition on the way is good news for buyers: more choice and, presumably, more movement on prices.
The known limits remain: a few hours of battery and, for now, no true mass-market augmented reality. But as a category, smart glasses have found their lane: the everyday object, not the trade-show gadget.
